Proximity Switches

Proximity sensors are used to detect the presence of NEARBY objects without any physical contact. These ranges include both INDUCTIVE (sensing metal targets) as well as CAPACITIVE (sensing other targets – eg. plastic) sensors. The nominal sensing range (maximum distance) is determined by the body diameter of the sensors – i.e. larger diameters = longer sensing ranges. Mounting variations also determine sensing range – i.e. flush-mount = short range / NON-flush mount = longer range.Proximity sensors can have a high reliability and long life due to the fact that there are no mechanical parts to wear out, nor damage due to physical contact with a target.
